Dr. Doug Gardenhire and his Georgia State University Respiratory Therapy Students recently joined us in the Dominican Republic for a rewarding week of service learning.

In addition to the home visits, the students began construction of two bathrooms for two families in the La Cuarenta community, which have now been finished.

During the same exciting week, Dr. Johnathan Steppe, Dr. Diane Keen, and their Nursing students from Kennesaw State University were also in-country.
The students conducted family health assessments, joined GSU students on the bathroom projects, visited clinical sites including the municipal hospital and community clinics, and met with community health workers in Constanza.
The data collected from the assessments will help Puente follow up accordingly and identify patients for future Comunidad Connect groups to work with.

Our team in Nicaragua recently distributed care packages to community leaders in Los Robles. We are grateful to these women for their leadership, perseverance, and advocacy for the most vulnerable families in their community year after year. In addition, Comunidad Connect field staff also delivered warm meals to elderly women in honor of International Women’s Day.
