One remarkable story is that of Mr. Leonido Pinales, who had been unable to leave his home independently for around three years because auto accidents in front of his house destroyed his previous wheelchair ramp. Westminster Presbyterian Church volunteers joined Comunidad Connect and local partners to build a new access to his house. Thanks to their hard work, a new concrete wheelchair ramp was built, enabling Mr. Pinales to step outside on his own for the first time in years. During a visit on the final day, he proudly demonstrated his newfound freedom, saying, “Now I can go out myself!”. Other key projects during the week included turning a dirt floor into concrete and replacing a damaged roof.

The week concluded with a donation of baseball bases and baseballs to a local club, providing kids with what they need to succeed. This week of service was a “testament to the power of teamwork and dedication”, reflected CC DR Country Director, Eurel Gonzalez.
