Here’s to a year of growth, connection, and continued impact—all made possible through your support!

In December, a passionate group of nursing students from Kennesaw State University (KSU) traveled to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic to partner with Comunidad Connect in efforts to improve health outcomes for the community of Aguas Negras (also known as Nuevo Renacer).
Puerto Plata, a vibrant city with thriving opportunities, still faces challenges in its most vulnerable neighborhoods. Comunidad Connect is dedicated to creating sustainable change in these areas, and the involvement of the KSU nursing team was a vital step forward.

During their trip, the students participated in a large-scale beach cleanup alongside nearly 100 local residents, demonstrating the power of collective action in preserving the local environment. Their dedication didn’t stop there. The team conducted 23 family health assessments in Aguas Negras, providing critical baseline data that will shape future patient care strategies.

Thanks to the successful completion of two pilot projects in 2024, Comunidad Connect is excited to announce the full-scale launch of the Safe Sanitation Project in Los Robles, Jinotega, Nicaragua. With an investment of nearly $70,000, this initiative will address the community’s critical need for safe, sanitary toilet facilities and proper wastewater management.
Home to approximately 2,000 residents, Los Robles faces significant health and environmental challenges due to a lack of proper sewage systems. Many families rely on makeshift latrines or open defecation, contributing to pollution and poor hygiene. The Safe Sanitation Project aims to change that by providing biodigester latrines, a sustainable solution that improves sanitation, protects the environment, and promotes human dignity.

The pilot phase, which installed biodigester latrines for two families, demonstrated the project’s potential for transformative impact. In 2025, the project will scale to reach even more households, delivering lasting health and safety improvements while fostering a culture of hygiene and sanitation that will benefit future generations.
Stay tuned for more updates, inspiring family stories, and progress reports as we work toward a healthier, more sustainable future for Los Robles. We are grateful for the generosity of our donors and partners who make this vital work possible. Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities—one biodigester latrine at a time!

In late 2024, Comunidad Connect hosted our annual Together For Health education forum. The subject was, “Accessing MS Care: Medical Cannabis & The Impact of Telemedicine.”
A special shoutout Dr. Ben Thrower, Dr. Amy Gutierrez, and the incredible team at the Shepherd Center for their warm hospitality and unwavering support in hosting this meaningful event.
With nearly 50 attendees, we were thrilled to see such strong engagement from the Atlanta community. This forum was made possible by the generous support of our nonprofit and corporate partners—thank you for your commitment to advancing MS care!
