Meyling Gutiérrez

Meyling is 5 years old and lives in the community of Los Robles with her parents and 2 sisters. She was born with a syndrome that affected her vertebrae, trachea, and esophagus development, and caused several congenital birth defects. Before Drs. Throwers were introduced to Meyling, she and her mother traveled 5 hours by bus to the capital city of Managua every month for three days of appointments with a gastroenterologist, a cardiologist, geneticist, and a pediatrician.

The Together For Health Program now provides Meyling medicine and private transportation. In the summer of 2019, Meyline underwent a successful esophagus replacement surgery. She is doing very well and eating normally.

Raquel Blandon Rizo

Raquel Blandon Rizo

Raquel is 20 years old and lives in the community of Los Robles, Nicaragua with her mother, brother and grandmother. She was born with a cognitive disorder resulting in limited mental capabilities. She is hyperactive, compulsively bites her hands, and suffers from seizures.

A patient of the Together For Health program since 2016, Raquel receives medicine monthly and personal transportation to a psychiatrist in Jinotega every two months. This support improves her quality of life and alleviates the financial burden.

Priscilla Granados

Priscilla Granados

Priscila is an 11-year-old with Downs Syndrome. She lives with her mother, Elizabeth, her father, Francisco, and her little sister, Francis.

Every two months she visits a pediatrician and in Jinotega for evaluations. She also receives medicine for migraines and pain and vitamins for healthy growth. Despite her condition, Priscila has not fallen behind her peers academically.

Leyla Lopez

Leyla Lopez

Leyla is 39 years old and lives with her mother in the community of Los Robles. 12 years ago, she experienced a traumatic event and now suffers from depression and psychosis. Leyla’s emotional instability inhibits her capacity to work or live independently.

The Together For Health program provides frequent transportation to a psychologist and medicine that helps minimize her anxiety and increase her overall happiness. Recently a tumor was found in her liver. Leyla will undergo more tests soon to see if it is cancerous.

Keyler Granados

Keyler Granados

Keyler is a 12-year-old with autism who lives in the community of Los Robles with his parents, 2 siblings and his aunt. He has difficulty focusing and suffers from seizures.

Since enrolling in the Together For Health program, Keyler’s convulsions have decreased and now tolerates wearing clothes. His mother, Rosario, appreciates the “great rest” that the Together For Health program provides for her and her son.

Melany Nicole Gadea Romero

Melany Nicole Gadea Romero

Melany is a 6-year-old from the community of Los Robles. She lives with her mother and brother in a remote section of the community. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Melany has had a challenging start to her life. After receiving chemotherapy and radiation for a year, she sadly relapsed. She is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy and radiation.

Through the Together for Health program, Melany services medicine, and transportation to her appointment in Managua. At this point in time, Melany’s prognosis is uncertain

ESPERANZA DE JESÚS RIZO GONZÁLEZ

ESPERANZA DE JESÚS RIZO GONZÁLEZ

Doña Esperanza is a 79-year Brigadista (Community Health Volunteer) who lives with her adult sons in the community of Los Robles. Several years ago she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which has contributed to poor blood circulation.

Since her enrollment with the Together For Health program, Esperanza has received treatment that improves her quality of life.

INOCENCIO ALTAMIRANO

INOCENCIO ALTAMIRANO

Don Inocencio is a 76-year-old who lives in the community of San Esteban with his wife, Maria. A stroke about 8 years ago left him with pain in his bones, limited mobility of his arm, and walking difficulty. He also has a chronic obstructive pulmonary illness.

Through the Together For Health Program, Inocencio receives support that lessens the burden of the family and improves Inocencio’s quality of life.

Ligia Cristela Castro

Ligia Cristela Castro

Ligia is a 15-year-old from the community of Los Robles who suffers from arthritis in her hands. She lives with her mother, siblings, and nieces. Her father was Don Armando, a patient of the Together for Health program who tragically passed away in 2018.

Through her enrollment in the program, Ligia receives gel for pain and anti-swelling. In the coming weeks, she will visit a rheumatologist to examine her circulation and bones

JHONNY ALFREDO BLANDÓN

JHONNY ALFREDO BLANDÓN

Jhonny is 17 years old and lives in the community of Los Robles with his grandmother Rosario and mother, Fatima. His sister is Raquel, also a patient of the Together for Health Program.

A few years ago, Jhonny started to have severe migraines and now receives medicines to lessen his pain and frequency of migraines.

Gerson Javier Castro Olivas

Gerson Javier Castro Olivas

Gerson is 12 years old and lives with his mother, Ruth, sister, and step-father. He was first enrolled in the Together of Health program in 2016 after he was diagnosed with ADHD and social anxiety.

Since beginning his medicine, Gerson has improved dramatically in school and among her peers. As part of his treatment, he sees a psychologist every month and a psychiatrist every two months.

Juan Carlos is 32 years old and was born with a condition called infantile cerebral paralysis. He has never been unable to walk, feed or clean himself on his own. He lives in the community of Los Robles with his mother, Yolanda, father, and brothers. His family cares for Juan Carlos working to give him the best quality of life possible.

Through the Together For Health Program, Juan Carlos receives medicine to control his seizures and vomiting.

JESUS ABDIEL LOPES CHAVARRIA

JESUS ABDIEL LOPES CHAVARRIA

Jesus is a 3-year-old who lives with his parents in the community of Los Robles, Nicaragua. He was born with a Cleft Palate and an underlying genetic disorder and will have severe cognitive challenges for the rest of his life. Currently, he is unable to receive surgery because of recurring seizures and the inability to gain enough weight.

Jesus joined the Together For Health Program in February of 2019 and frequently visits Managua for evaluations and appointments with specialists. His mother, Mirna, and father Norlan are extremely grateful for the support, both financially and emotionally.

Crimarelin Castro is 3 years old and is the newest patient of our Together For Health program. A serious pneumonia infection at an early age resulted in a tracheostomy procedure in addition to several severe diagnoses.

Now that she is in Together For Health, Comunidad Connect will visit her home monthly with a medical professional, provide her with medicine, and facilitate her therapy through transportation to specialists throughout Nicaragua. We will keep you updated throughout the year on her health and progress.

Maria Lourdes

Maria Lourdes is 31 years old and lives in the community of San Esteban with her husband, Francisco and daughter, Francis. Since she was a teenager, Maria has suffered from severe seizures that leave her feeling “lost and confused”.

Through her enrollment in the Together For Health program, Maria receives medicine that reduces the frequency of her seizures and transportation to a general physician once a month.

BLANCA NUBIA GUTIÉRREZ RIVERA

Blanca is a 40-year-old who suffers from epilepsy and is mentally handicapped. She lives in the community of Los Robles with her husband and son.

Through the Together For Health Program, Blanca receives vitamins, medicines to control her seizures and receives access to specialists in the nearby city of Jinotega. In May of 2020, Comunidad Connect built a new home for Blanca and her family through the Homes For Good program.

CRISBELL YUNEIDY GUTIÉRREZ PICADO

Crisbel is a 13-year-old who lives with her mother, Tanya, and her 3 siblings. An accident as a baby left her mentally handicapped and with decreased motor skills. Drs. Ben and Karen first met with Crisbel in 2015 and began to prescribe medicine and physical therapy exercises.

Since her enrollment, Crisbell’s temperament, mobility, and communications skills have improved. Tanya and Crisbel always wait enthusiastically for the Thrower’s next visit. In February of 2021, Comunidad Connect built a new home for Crisbel and her family through the Homes For Good program.
